Riverseam Sweater（リバーシームセーター）は、肩から袖口へと流れる川のようなラインが印象的なセーターです。

このデザインの始まりは、「涙が川になる」というイメージでした。

涙が肩から静かに流れ、自分自身を抱きしめるように身体をめぐる。そしていつしか、その人の輪郭を形作り、外界から守るための一枚になる。そんな、防具にも似たセーターを編んでみたいと思いました。

このセーターには、「River」と「Seam」を組み合わせた Riverseam という名前を選びました。流れる川が、バラバラの心を縫い合わせるように、静かに自分を形作っていく。そんな願いを込めています。

構造はボトムアップで身頃を編み進め、袖や襟もそこから編み出していく設計です。肩のラインは一見複雑に見えますが、ただ目の前の一段を重ねていくだけで、気づけば一本の川が肩から流れ始め、やがて袖口へと続いていきます。その景色が少しずつ現れてくる様は、このパターンを編む何よりの楽しさです。私はこの工程を、ひそかに「川を流す」と呼んでいます。

もちろん、身丈や袖丈、襟幅なども、お好みに合わせて調整できるようになっていますので、よりご自身の体に馴染むものを編んでいただけます。

このセーターを編むことは内省することに近いかもしれません。一目一目を重ねる時間が、少しずつ自分を縫い合わせ、自分自身を大切に思える時間になりますように。

Riverseam Sweater is a sweater defined by river-like lines that flow from the shoulders all the way to the cuffs.

This design began with a single image: tears becoming a river.

I imagined tears flowing quietly from the shoulders, winding around the body as though embracing it. In time, they would shape a person’s silhouette, becoming something that protects rather than wounds—a garment that feels almost like a piece of armor. That was the sweater I wanted to create.

I combined the words River and Seam to create the name Riverseam. I wanted to imagine a river that quietly stitches together a heart that has fallen apart, gently shaping the person it belongs to. That is the wish woven into its name.

The sweater is worked from the bottom up, with the sleeves and collar knitted directly from the body. Although the shoulder detail may look intricate, all you need to do is keep working one row at a time. Before you know it, a river begins to emerge from the shoulders, gradually flowing toward the cuffs. Watching that landscape slowly reveal itself is, to me, the greatest joy of knitting this pattern. I secretly think of this process as letting the river flow.

The length of the body, sleeves, and collar can all be adjusted to suit your own preferences, so you can create a garment that feels truly your own.

Perhaps knitting this sweater is a quiet act of introspection. I hope that, stitch by stitch, the time you spend making it gently stitches you back together, becoming a time in which you can hold yourself with a little more kindness and care.
